standards of care

After years of experience in various mental health settings--hospital, community, managed care organizations, large group practices, and insurance sectors--the thing that continued to be a source of frustration was how the standard of care was decreased in order to balance the ledger. Sometimes this ledger called for seeing more clients than was ethically possible, and sometimes this ledger called for managing expectations of a person's recovery based on insurance parameters, rather than a provider's clinical judgement.  The multitude of ways in which this 'ledger' gets balanced is countless.

What is also true though is that people do get better when they receive a high standard of care, and which, not-so-ironically, is often the very same standard of care that practitioners learn and are trained to provide under the supervision of leading experts in their field.  These standards, at least in Mental Health, are straight-forward, and yet there are so many cracks in the system and barriers to healthcare, that it becomes necessary to be reminded of what they are again.

A High Standard of Care IS Our Mission Statement

At Eastside Insight, we are motivated by the knowledge, and experience, that therapy works when practitioners can provide the type of care that allows them to excel in their profession, and so we have streamlined our operations in a manner that best supports this mission, while also addressing barriers to service.

Treatment Not Management

Affordability & Access to Services

Treatment Not Management

  • This means treating root causes of a concern, rather than managing the symptoms.
  • It is a focus that requires weekly, consistent sessions, a detailed treatment plan (with targeted phases of therapy, monitored progress, and a projected duration of care) and coordination with other medical providers when needed.
  • It means our goal is to graduate you from therapy so that you can take advantage of the energy of being in a better place.
  • Providing directed, intensive private care means less cost over the long-term compared to models of symptom reduction.
  • Traditional talk therapy, which provides symptom relief by way of a client feeling heard and listened to, is an important cornerstone of therapy, but when ‘doing better’ is measured by ‘feeling better,’ the results are often short-lived; whereas using actual assessments and the introduction of new tools and interventions, can take those same feelings and help the person process what is being felt in a more effective and meaningful way.

Quality Over Quantity

Affordability & Access to Services

Treatment Not Management

  • This means therapists with reduced caseloads.
  • To achieve this, our providers are not salary, nor hourly, but rather operate fee-for-service schedules.
  • Meaning therapists will only accept a client onto their case load if there is a reoccurring spot in their schedule to do so AND after first consulting with the client to make sure they are both suited to working with each other.
  • This means we do not try to off-set the costs of cancellations by double-booking appointments, offering 'open-booking,' or 'as needed ' appointments.
  • It means clients will never have to go weeks without an appointment, as each client gets an exclusive spot held for them each week.

Affordability & Access to Services

Affordability & Access to Services

  • We engage in fee transparency, meaning our rates are set within consideration of the CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) schedule and the Fair Health Consumer guide.
  • Moreover, while our fee schedule is the same across all pay models, we aim to honor the differences among our clients, as well as honor clients who provide prompt payment so that we can do what we do best--be your therapist, not your biller.  This means ALL out-of-network reimbursements go directly to our clients, not to us.   And if we do not have to bill your insurance, then any billing practices not used in processing your bill will be passed back onto you.
  • We also hold pro bono (free) slots. These pro bono spots are often full, but we do maintain a wait list for those seeking this service.
  • Telehealth is another area of service where we believe providers can help those who would not necessarily be able to participate in therapy or access this service.
  • Eastside Insight has invested in IT services that have been tailored to provide telehealth services in the most highly secure, HIPAA-compliant, and yet user-friendly manner possible.
