Emergency & Crisis Protocol

It can be hard to know what is an emergency and what is a crisis, especially when we are experiencing an acute stressor.

An emergency is physical danger involving immediate threat to life, such as fires, accidents, severe injuries, medical issues, or a crime is being committed.

In case of an emergency, call 911, anywhere in the country, OR go to the closest hospital emergency department.

In case of crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), anywhere in the country, or use the other resource numbers below.

A crisis is impacts to base needs and behavioral health,  suicidal thoughts, substance use issues, or other emotional distress.

King County Resource Phone Numbers

  • In crisis, and are in King County, please call the 24-hour King County Crisis Line at 1-866-427-4747 (866-427-4CRISIS)
  • Having a mental health crisis, and are in King County, please call the King County Mobile Rapid
    Response Crisis Team at 206-461-3222

Outside Counties Resource Phone Numbers

  • In crisis, in Washington, but outside of the King County, please call the 24-hour Crisis Lines for the following counties or regions:

Pierce County / 1-800-576-7764

Southwest Washington / 1-800-626-8137

North Central Washington / 1-800-852-2923

Dial 711, anywhere in the country, if you are in need of relay services to connect to any of the numbers listed above.

Please do not reach out to us and wait for a response back before contacting emergency and crisis responders, as we do not have the ability to provide immediate help, nor the level of resources needed to stabilize in-the-moment crisis and emergency situations.

If you are reading this and you’re still unsure what to do, we have provided some resources that may help you in deciding next steps and things you can do for yourself, right now, to be safe and seek safety.

Crisis Protocol

In addition to the crisis protocol, if you have developed a distress or safety plan, please take it out and implement it now. And if you have misplaced it, or you don’t have one, then please use ours. A Distress Plan is not a substitute for professional care, but it can help you get to your next safe moment.
